Britain is a union state, not a unitary one


1. Is Great Britain the same as the UK? T/F

False. Great Britain and the United Kingdom refer to different areas, Great Britain only comprises England, Scotland and Wales.

2.What is the official name of the UK?

a) The United Kingdom of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

b) The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

c) The United Kingdom of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

3. The ‘Moreno Question’ refers to the fact that the Scots and the Welsh are proud of their separate identities and tend to be more forward about referring to themselves as Scottish or Welsh. T/F

True. While people living in England seem not to care about being English and consider themselves 'equally English and British', Scottish and Welsh people clearly show their national identity for their own countries


4. How many different identities can we find in Great Britain?

a) British people are English.

b) British people are Scottish, Welsh and Irish (living in Northern Ireland).

c) British people are Scottish, Welsh, Irish (living in Northern Ireland) and English.
