Western United States

WESTERN UNITED STATES



STATES

Mountain states: Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Idaho, Utah, Arizona and Nevada.
Pacific states: Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska and Hawaii.







POPULATION


-The population is sparse because of the specific geography. Steep mountains are not good places for cities to develope.
-Hawaii has the largest group of Asian American.
-California received in the 80's a large number of Asians and nowadays there is a large Mexican American population. Many westerns have moved there from other regions to start again with their lives.
- The western states have a 68.5% of white people, a 24.3% of Hispanic people of any races, a 7.9% of Asians, a 4.9% of black people, 1.8% are American Indian and Alaska Natives and 0.5% are Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander.

HISTORY AND CULTURE

-In this part European settlement is older than in midwestern states.
-There are millions of hectares of undeveloped land used for leisure and activities like fishing, camping, hiking, boating,etc. There is a great tradition of lumbering and mining.
-Los Angeles is best Known as the home of the Hollywood film industry.
-Stories of Old West, cowboys and frontier towns are part of America's folklore.
-Birth place of country and western music.
